By R. Neil Scott / Middle Tennessee State University
4.0 out of 5.0 stars. A collection of poems inspired by Flannery O'Connor's letters in The Habit of Being..., August 4, 2008
Saunders offers a collection of fourteen original poems written from the perspective of what Flannery O'Connor "might say if she were able to continue her letter writing after her death."
Inspired by O'Connor's letters published in The Habit of Being, Saunders states that she has "borrowed [her] words, mis-spellings and all" to "help others discover the gift of Flannery O'Connor."
Poems focus upon a variety of topics, including O'Connor's lupus, her use of crutches, her relationship with and admiration for her father [Edward F. O'Connor, Jr.], and the role others played in supporting her literary efforts.
